Unique Master Classes in Slovakia, Romania and Idrija
In the next 3 months, we invite you to as many as 3 master classes organized as part of the RE: project, which is co-financed by the Creative Europe program. During the unique 3-day courses, you will get to know the heritage of the Romanian Herculaneum, the Slovak Gemer, and, of course, our unique mining house in Idrija. Participation in all workshops is free – for selected participants, we cover all travel, accommodation, and food costs.
Two more places are open for participation in the master class on traditional techniques, which will take place from May 22 to 26 in Kameňany, Slovakia. In this 3-day masterclass, you will learn about some of the traditional techniques of building and landscaping a Lutheran church from the 13th century.
You will work in the area of the church, which was originally dedicated to the Hungarian king St. Ladislav. It was built on a ridge in the center of the village in the middle of the 13th century and has Romanesque foundations. It is a single-nave church with a semicircular apse, an attached south tower, and a north sacristy. Some scholars have hypothesized that the apse was originally part of a large Romanesque rotunda that was later connected to a newer nave, but this theory has been disproved. The early Gothic south portal is remarkable. The actual appearance of the church was changed by the reconstructions in the 17th century when the nave was vaulted and the windows were rebuilt in Baroque and Classicist style. The brick belfry was built around 1800 as part of the church.
